Common Car Maintenance Mistakes
Are you one of those people who wait for something to break before trying to fix the issue? If yes then you fall in the category of a majority of drivers who ignore small problems with their cars. Another crisis comes along when the problem is fixed inappropriately. A few of the most common maintenance mistakes made by people are:
- Disregarding the replacement of light bulbs: Replacing light bulbs is an easy and affordable process and hence one must keep a check on them or basically should pay attention to the headlights, running lights, tail lights and also the brake lights. When any of these burn out, have a look at your owner’s manual and change them. Don’t you think is makes no sense to meet with an accident only because you didn’t substitute the lights of your car?
- Delaying the replacement of the old tyres: People are usually tempted to run their vehicle for a few more KM’s before changing the tyres. Tyres are one of the most important components of your car because they let you maintain appropriate contact with the road. Therefore they should always be in good to excellent condition to give you the best safety in your automobile. You might not be aware of the age of the tyres of your car due to certain reasons but even then you must not avoid the fact that their condition might be such that they need a quick replacement. It’s not easy to see or sense the damage each time but the sensible thing is to substitute your old tires with new ones before the structural dents, cracks and injuries create bigger problems for you. Don’t mess with your life change your old tyres.
- Running out of fluids: The fluids in our cars are really crucial for its overall performance. The most important liquid is obviously gasoline (the fuel) but you might have a full tank of that and your vehicle might still run abruptly (or not at all) because there are other fluids too that your car needs at all times. Without oil, the moving parts of the engine go dry. Similarly, the transmission fluid, the brake fluid, the coolant etc. help in the correct operation of all the parts of your car. Thus, you must keep a check on all of these and save yourself any unnecessary trouble.
- Paying heed to the warning lights: People often do not give a lot of attention to the warning lights and in fact at times, they don’t even know what certain indicators imply. Of course in most cases there is nothing really wrong when these indicators blink or light up but it is essential to understand what you vehicle is trying to convey to you. Check the owner’s manual to find out about these and fix the issue in time rather than putting it off for later. For problems that you can’t solve yourself, seek the help of a professional.
- Mishandling the car’s brakes: At an amateur level, nobody practically messes with the brakes because they can have the most dangerous impact on your life. Screwing up a brake job is the worst thing you could do. The operation of the brakes depends on many other moving parts and these require lubricants. Therefore, taking the components apart and then putting them back as one requires specific grease and lube. One has to be excessively careful about this part. Therefore it is usually advisable to contact a professional for this work or to first work around all the aspects before doing something with the brake system.
